"Don't put it off; do it now! Don't rest until you do."
- Proverbs 6:4
Despite loving work and being considered a fairly diligent and hard-working individual, there are still many aspects of my life where I procrastinate on things that I should be doing. At first, these moments of rest and procrastination appear trivial, but over time, the workload or issues may accumulate and the task may become daunting, or a situation becomes a much larger issue than it should have. Had I spent the time to take care of it sooner, it likely would have taken far less effort.
Proverbs 6 provides wisdom, complete with a call to action to work. It cautions against sleeping and resting when one should labour and prepare for future days. It exemplifies how the ants work and labour without governance, and diligently prepares for the winter by labouring all summer.
Take heed of verses 9 - 11 in Proverbs 6,
"How long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will you get up from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest—
Poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man."
Reflection: What have you been putting off? Read Proverbs 6:4-11, pray to God to help you tackle the work you have been pushing aside. Then, get up, and begin.
