"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."

- Colossians 2:6-7

When we think of success, we may think of the stereotypical thoughts of wealth, of status, of a certain job title, and even ideals in our relationships. There may be materialistic indicators that we yearn for as we compare ourselves with others. Yet, there are those who achieve what we consider as success who comment that they continue to feel empty or unsatisfied. They may perpetuate the chase for more things, more achievements, and what is outwardly desirable. This continuous chase is addictive and insatiable. It can be consuming.

When we choose to live our lives in Christ, however, we begin to choose a different type of fulfillment. If we allow ourselves to build a strong foundation in Christ, then it becomes clear that what may have been once important to chase is inconsequential. We let go of empty promises of earthly things, and instead begin to be filled with joy and gratitude. The words “overflowing with thankfulness” are powerful description of how we can feel and be made complete.

In Colossians, the passage continues to speak to this spiritual fullness. “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness.”

There may be days when you feel discouraged, empty, and void of joy and purpose. It may be challenging to see all the good that God has put in your life. In those toughest of times, turn instead to God and focus on how you can root your life more so in Christ. And when you do so, may you then be made full and complete in the glory of God, finding joy and overflowing with feelings of thankfulness for all that you have been blessed with.

Reflection: What are you chasing that has made you feeling more empty? Pray that you may let this chase go and to take moments of your day for quiet time with Christ. Find space in your life to engage with God and develop your foundation in faith. Give thanks for all the good that is in your life.
