Jesus looked at them and said,
"With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
- Matthew 19:26
It is hard to let go of our riches to follow Christ, and it may even seem impossible to do so to enter the kingdom of heaven. Yet, Jesus tells his disciples that all things through God are possible.
This is a recurring theme in the bible as time and time again, Jesus and God have performed miracles and completed what appeared impossible. In our darkest hours when we are filled with hopelessness, or are in situations where we do not think a positive outcome is achievable, God's power is shown to make the impossible possible.
This is evident, for example, in the story of Abraham. In Genesis, "Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, ' Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?" (Genesis 17:17). Yet God blessed Abraham and Sarah with Isaac and demonstrated that all things are indeed possible.
Similarly, in Exodus, Moses who did not feel confident to lead still went to the Pharaoh to ask for the freedom of the Israelites from slavery. After performing many extraordinary events, Moses was able to lead them to freedom.
In the new testament, Jesus also shows how God's power can work by healing many who were sick or disabled. He Himself was the ultimate example of how things can be possible through his resurrection.
So the next time should you despair that you are in a challenging situation or when you are about to give up hope, trust that God has a greater plan and that all things are possible through Christ.
Reflection: What are you struggling with that seems impossible? Pray that God provides you with support and the answer and trust that He has the power to make the impossible possible.
