"Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."

- Ephesians 4:31-32

Sometimes we may feel wronged, or feel that a situation is unfair, and we let feelings of anger, resentment, and bitterness consume us. It is important to know that while acknowledging and appreciating an array of feelings are an integral part of the human experience, giving into these feelings too much, or too long can have a damaging effect on yourself. Ultimately, it is important to remember that the person you are harming is yourself in the long run. It is not healthy, and sometimes not even acceptable, to act maliciously towards others to express our frustrations, to assert a sense of control or authority, or to retaliate. Instead, be reminded of the grace that God has shown by loving us despite our transgressions. Be willing to share the love which we have generously received. Forgiveness can be difficult, but work at it and be humbled by the knowledge that we are not without fault. It is by letting go that we may find love and healing in our relationships and within ourselves.

Reflection: Accept the challenge to love others and show kindness, regardless of whether you think someone deserves it or not. The next time you feel inclined to utter regrettable words, express road rage, make offensive gestures or complain about a friend, family or colleague -- stop, take a moment, and consider the alternative. Be the bigger and stronger person by being kind instead.
