“Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.”- Isaiah 60:1
As a believer of Christ, there lives God's light inside you. Consider yourself not just a human being going through life, waiting for life to happen to you. Instead, consider yourself as loved and chosen to be a representative to do God's work. Knowing that you are Christian, others will look towards you to see God through you, and your actions.
Thus, it's important to know that you have an important role to play in sharing God's light. Like when Jesus speaks about the salt and the light in the New Testament, He encourages us to be the light of the world, not to be hidden (Matthew 5:14). This is reflected in Isaiah, in chapter 60 verses 1-3, where it is written:
"Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your dawn."
The world is hard, and life can be full of darkness. When troubles come, do not hide yourself in misery and do not be afraid. Instead, be a source of hope. This doesn't mean pretending as though things are fine nor putting on a smiling face as a front. Instead, be authentic, loving, and let God's light shine through you. Awaken God's glory within you through developing your relationship with Him and be the light that others can trust and come to.
This past winter has had moments of prolonged cloudiness where I live. There were weeks in December and January where there was no sun. It affected everyone's moods and spirits, and one cannot help but feel the winter blues, or for some, seasonal depression. The day that the sun came, it made such an impact for our spirits. We immediately feel lifted, with greater ability to feel joy and hope.
In the same way, in the midst of the dull darkness in the world, be that light for others. Know that you have a role and an impact to those around you. Arise and shine.
Reflection: How might you have been hiding? Is there a way that you can be a source of light to others in your daily life?
