“I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.”
- John 17:23
Right before Jesus was betrayed and arrested, Jesus prayed. He prayed "not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message." He prayed for us, knowing all the while that his presence has brought us joy but that we will also be despised for not being of this world. Yet we do not have to feel alone. We are one, belonging to God.
Sometimes when we look at our faith, and those who are of our faith, it is incredible how many factions, denominations and groups there are. Regardless of how we have come to Jesus though, we need to know that we are linked by the common thread through the love of Christ. Jesus prayed for us in his last hours before the betrayal, for us to remain united through God's love.
Jesus ends his prayer expressing how He has revealed God to us. God's love for Jesus will be in us, and that Jesus will be in us.
Reflection: God's love is in us, and Jesus's love is in us. Pray in knowledge and connection of how we are united with Christ, and with one another, through the love of God.
