“We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer. People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives. Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.”

- Proverbs 16:1-3

Throughout our lives, some of us have been taught to devise goals, to make plans, and to develop lists. In general, we are told that it is good to be organized and be prepared--and it is true, it is always good to have a plan. It is important, however, to understand our motives behind the plans, and contemplate how and why we make these plans. Be honest, because God knows our intent behind our plans.

If we devote our plans to serve and honour God, then it will surely succeed, even if they do not turn out the way we thought they would. God has a plan for us, so do not be afraid when plans go 'off course' from how we imagined. We can have faith that God has a purpose for us and His plan for us is likely beyond any imagination of where we thought we would be.

In the story of Joseph, he was sold by his brothers to slavery. He had suffered and one can hardly imagine how painful the experience was for Joseph. Eventually, through God's plan, he was made an advisor to the Pharaoh, playing a critical role in saving people by coordinating the storage of food in advance of the famine. In reuniting with his brothers, Joseph says to them, "God has sent me ahead of you to keep you and your families alive and to preserve many survivors. So it was God who sent me here, not you! And He is the one who made me an advisor to Pharaoh -- the manager of his entire palace and the governor of all Egypt." (Genesis 45: 7-8).

Plan, and commit your life to serving God, and He will lay out steps for your lives in a remarkable way for you to serve a greater purpose in wonderful ways.

Reflection: What are your plans for your life? Are they plans which would worship and serve God's will? Invite God to help you with your plan, and trust in God to guide you in His plan for you.
