“Then Jesus said, 'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

- Mathew 11:28

Whether you are reading this in the midst of the pandemic or not, there are times when we can feel worn down and worn out. In running through this marathon called life, there are undoubtedly responsibilities, challenges, worries, and stress that can weigh on us. It is perfectly acceptable to come to God and admit when we are tired, exhausted, and overwhelmed, for it is through Him that we will find rest and restoration.

The idea of rest is key in the biblical context. Not only is the practice of sabbath supposed to be a day of rest, but outside of our regular dedication to restore our bodies and mind, there is the greater rest that we need for our soul as well. Through prayer, through humility, through the pursuit of our true self as our Creator had intended, we can find our centre.

In the next verse, Jesus explains, "Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light."

Reflection: Rest. Take the time or make the time to give your body, mind, and soul a rest. Use this rest to have the opportunity to connect with God.
